How BohousePrints got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
My Etsy shop, Bohouseprints, is a reflection of my passion for design and architecture. As an architect and graphic designer, I am always seeking new ways to create visually appealing and unique designs. When I moved to Toronto in 2019, I started designing various prints for my own home and for my friends' homes as well. Before the pandemic, I had already decided to open my own Etsy shop to sell my digital art prints. I was excited to share my designs with others and provide affordable and sustainable home decor options. It has been an amazing journey to see my shop grow and evolve over time.
I find inspiration for my designs in a variety of sources, from nature to art movements and everything in between. I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and styles, and I'm always open to feedback and suggestions from my customers. One thing that's really important to me is using sustainable and environmentally friendly materials in my shop. That's why I offer digital prints that can be downloaded and printed locally, which reduces waste and lowers the carbon footprint associated with shipping physical products. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to do what I love and share my passion with others through my Etsy shop. I hope that my designs bring joy and inspiration to people's homes!
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
I have to say, it's hard to choose a favourite item from my shop because each design is special to me in its own way.
I love these prints because they incorporate botanical elements, which I find inspiring and calming.
These prints have been selling quite well in my shop, and I think it's because they offer a unique and affordable way to add a touch of bohemian style and nature-inspired design to any room. Many people are looking for ways to make their homes feel more cosy and inviting, and I think these sets provide that warmth and comfort.
I'm honored that these prints have been well-received by my customers, and I'm grateful to be able to share my passion for design and nature through my Etsy shop.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
I was fortunate enough to earn my first sale within the first month of opening my Etsy shop. As one of the first 20 shops to offer bohemian-inspired decor items, I think my designs stood out and attracted customers who were looking for unique and affordable ways to add a bohemian touch to their homes.
In terms of attracting customers to my Etsy shop, I use a variety of methods. One of the most effective ways has been through social media platforms, where I showcase my designs and engage with my followers. I also participate in local art and craft events to showcase my work and connect with potential customers.
I make sure to optimise my Etsy shop by using keywords and tags that accurately describe my products and appeal to my target audience. I also regularly update my shop with new designs and offer promotions and discounts to attract repeat customers.
I believe that the key to attracting customers to my Etsy shop is to create unique and high-quality designs that stand out in a crowded marketplace and to actively engage with my customers and followers on social media and other platforms.
Managing BohousePrints
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
In terms of tools and apps, I use Alura. Alura is a great tool that helps me streamline my workflow and stay updated, which is essential for running a successful Etsy shop. Since most of my products are digital downloads, I don't have to worry about shipping and fulfilment as much. However, I do plan on expanding my product offerings to include physical products in the future, and when that happens, I will make sure to use the most sustainable and efficient methods possible for shipping and fulfilment.
The future of BohousePrints
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
My goal for my Etsy shop is to continue to grow and expand while staying true to my design aesthetic and values. I would love to add more physical products to my shop, such as prints and home decor items, that reflect my love for bohemian and nature-inspired design.
In addition to expanding my product offerings, I also want to continue to connect with my customers and build a community around my brand. I believe that building strong relationships with customers is key to running a successful business, and I want to make sure that each and every person who interacts with my shop feels valued and appreciated.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
My advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop would be to focus on three key areas: branding, product quality, and customer service.
Firstly, it's important to establish a clear and cohesive brand identity that reflects your unique style and values. This includes creating a shop name, logo, and visual aesthetic that resonates with your target audience.
Secondly, prioritise the quality of your products above all else. Invest in high-quality materials and craftsmanship to ensure that your products meet or exceed customer expectations. Take the time to perfect your product photography and descriptions to showcase your products in the best possible light.
Finally, make customer service a top priority. Respond promptly to customer inquiries and feedback, and go above and beyond to ensure that every customer has a positive experience with your shop. This includes offering hassle-free returns and exchanges and being transparent and honest about any issues that may arise.
Above all, be patient and persistent. Building a successful Etsy shop takes time and effort, but with dedication and hard work, it is absolutely possible to create a thriving business and make a living doing what you love.
Some sellers really get inspired by hearing numbers. Feel free to share these if you like.
