How CarolinaThriftChick got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
Carolina Thrift Chick is a vintage shop specialising in clothing and accessories from the 1940’s through the new millennium. As an avid lover of vintage clothing, I was thrifting and saw items that were not loved in my area that I knew, as a designer, were in demand elsewhere. I sold some on eBay, but I knew of Etsy. The fees on Etsy at that time were lower, and the vintage selection on Etsy was more curated and had higher prices. I sourced local thrift stores and estate sales for my store.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My favourite items are high-margin items. This is business to me. As a vintage seller, there are no specific items I love more than others. It is finding items that are either diamonds in the rough or that I get at great prices.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
I made my first sale within the first few weeks I opened my shop. I use Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok to market.
Managing CarolinaThriftChick
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
I have an assistant who helps me occasionally photograph and list. I handle shipping. That was a big learning curve that I have educated myself on.
The future of CarolinaThriftChick
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
My goal is to keep this as my side gig and use it as extra income.
