How Cryptochips got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

My name is Jessica Kim, and I am the owner of Cryptochips. I started my crypto merch company back in 2021 to create and share tangible crypto currency with fellow enthusiasts. I am a crypto investor and trader with a background in design. Back then, I noticed there was a lack of crypto merchandise, and I wondered how great it would be to create and design physical bitcoin and ethereum coins just for myself and my friends. The playful idea eventually turned into reality with the help of the Etsy platform, where I started my dream business. At that time, I really didn’t know how people would react or take my work, but to my surprise, I was able to find a community of people who were so excited and supportive about what I was doing, and then a few sales turned into "Etsy Pick” today.

In February 2021, we started off with two products: bitcoin and ethereum coins, which were the most popular investment lines at the time. This just also happened to be the start of a bull market in the crypto space, and sales started to increase. And with the increase in sales, we also had increased interactions with our customers on Etsy. We had a lot of different requests for other crypto currencies, which gave us new ideas to create new products. Ultimately, you can say the drive was all from our loyal customer base. I am truly touched by the connections I have made through Etsy, and it drives me today to work hard for them to create the best exclusive crypto merchandise out there.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favourite items listed in my shop would be our QR coins and our Moon Money. These two items are top favourites as they are uniquely tailored to the customer themselves. For the QR coins, we work with our customers to turn their custom text into a one-and-only static QR in which the user themselves can have the option of putting a public key, a website, or a short message.

As for our Moon Money, it is a technology of the future. It features 144kb of programmable data, in which the user themselves have the opportunity to input anything they would like. This is one of my favourites because it is not only made with durability, but it also represents the history of crypto and the future of currency. 

Both QR and Money Money have proven to be fan favourites, with both being featured for “Etsy Picks”. With these top favourites, the possibilities are truly endless.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

With the Etsy platform, it was extremely easy to set up my shop and quickly earn my first sale. Everything was laid out so clearly and definitely set sellers for success.

Managing Cryptochips

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

We have a small team that helps with designs, shipping, fulfilment, and customer support. We are a bunch of crypto enthusiasts who love what we do.

The future of Cryptochips 

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

We have plans to continue growing our different merchandise lines and have just started our new NFT custom products, which we are excited about.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Looking back on my journey... My advice for new sellers starting an Etsy shop is to be confident in yourself. Being confident in your work and how it would add value to the world goes a long way. When you have confidence, you have the power to show the world your most genuine ideas and authenticity in your beliefs. Secondly, be humble. Being humble allows us to connect with the world around us. Being humble allows you to open your mind and your heart, actively listen to what people are saying, promote self-learning, and cultivate gratitude. Lastly, have fun! Enjoy every moment and opportunity that life gives you, and cherish the connections you make. Remember, supporting your community is supporting yourself!
