How DavidFisherArt got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
I'm David Fisher, an Israeli graphic designer and paper-cut artist born in Jerusalem. Through my art, I am determined to revive the traditional Jewish art form of paper cutting that dates back to at least the Middle Ages using modern laser-cut technology. With my expertise in Hebrew typography and my love of design, I create pieces that feel beautiful to portray Jewish blessings, prayers, symbols, and Judaica decorative motifs. In 2015, after debating how to move forward with my art, I decided to make the change and open up to online sales. After some investigation, I found that Etsy's platform is the most suitable for artists, allowing direct sales from the artist to the end customer without any intermediaries. Over time, I realized that the secret to my success depends on a quick response time (despite the time differences between the countries). And create art with the possibility of personalization and flexibility on the artist's part and an attempt to understand the customer's needs. I offer original one-off pieces and laser-cut versions of the original designs. Gorgeously framed and unframed pieces are ready for your store-bought frame. I have worked with one other color, and I have beautiful multi-color designs. I am working hard at my studio, putting all my love into the pieces you can see in my Etsy shop.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
Several years ago, while preparing for my son's wedding, I recognized the need for young couples to prepare a Jewish Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract). I realized that I could use the art of paper cutouts to help this theme, so I designed a whole line of Ketubahs. Over time, I understood the customer's style and created and developed more models. The following are my popular products:
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
After opening my Etsy shop, I made my first sale within a month. I realized that I had to act to increase the sales rate. When I had a physical deal in my studio, I asked the customers to purchase the product in my store (for a discount). This action increases the buyer's confidence in the purchase. Today I am working to attract customers to my Etsy shop. Among other things, I pay for Etsy's advertising system every month and upload photos of my creations to Pinterest with a link to my store. From time to time, I post on Facebook and Instagram.
Managing DavidFisherArt
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
In our family studio, my wife Naomi and I share the journey of creativity; we divide the work between us, contact customers, create art, package, and ship. The packaging part is very challenging and requires us to improve the shape of the packaging. This is to ensure our products arrive safely and without damage. We use recycled packaging materials. To protect the environment.
The future of DavidFisherArt
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
I'm constantly striving to reach new heights with each ambitious goal I set for myself. Over the years, I set varying goals: at first, I aspired to get a hundred sales; after reaching that goal, I set myself to reach a goal of 250 sales; then, I set myself a goal of 500 sales. Then I aspired to get a thousand sales. The next goal I set was to get two thousand deals. To achieve this goal, I intend to design new products. Today, the niche I am involved in has become more competitive. And requires more effort to get sales. Achieving goals one sale at a time, I'm on a mission to reach the next milestone.
