How EdifyClothing got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

I began my Etsy shop in 2014 part time, and once it got up and running, I left my "normal" job in 2015 to concentrate fully on designing and printing t-shirts full time. I hand draw and refine the designs digitally; they are then printed on a DTG printer using water-based inks. The hardware was sourced locally from a printing specialist. My blank stock is carefully selected for compliance with Fair Labor, WRAP, SEDEX, and OEKOTEX 100 standards and is bought from UK wholesalers.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favorite items are any of the skinny dog designs. Most of my artwork is created from what I enjoy doing, so running dogs, riding motorcycles, and drinking beer, but most of my spare time is spent looking after my rescue lurcher, so a lot of influence comes from that way.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

It took a couple of months to make a proper first sale (not just to family and friends). Currently, I am quite jaded about Etsy, as sales are very poor compared to my Amazon Handmade shop. Over the last Christmas period, Amazon accounted for 75% of my sales, while Etsy only managed 25%. I rely on keywords and images to make my products visible on both platforms.

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

I am a sole trader and do everything from design to print to packaging to shipment.

The future of EdifyClothing

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

Hopefully Etsy will pick up, but Amazon Handmade gets more sales for the same amount of photos and keywords, so let's see how things go.
