How HouseOfNikodem got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
I opened my Etsy Shop during the first lockdown of the COVID Pandemic in 2020. I always dreamed of being self-employed and had always had a strong affection for any kind of jewelry since I was a little kid. With plenty of free time during the lockdown, I decided to give my dream a chance and started making bracelets, at first only for me and my friends. My best friend then convinced me that the jewelry I made was beautiful enough to sell, and so I opened my House of Nikodem Shop in June 2020 on Etsy. I create the jewelry by myself and get my inspiration from magazines, Instagram, and simply the world around me.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My all-time favorite is the Little Pearl Choker. It's the perfect Everyday necklace; the pearls look classy and cool at the same time, and you can wear it alone or in combination with other necklaces. It also looks good in every season, no matter if it's summer or winter.
My favorite at the moment is the Tova Necklace because the colors are beautiful, it matches every outfit, and with the gemstones, the necklace always looks like premium jewelry.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
I got the first sale on the day I opened the shop, thanks to many friends. But I think the most important things to get sales are good photos, good SEO, and a good Social Media account, for example on Instagram, Pinterest, or TikTok.
Managing HouseOfNikodem
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
I run the shop totally by myself; I shoot the product and social media photos, I create the products, and I pack and ship them by myself. Sometimes I get help from my friends and family, but most of the time it’s just me and myself. One piece of advice I can give (this is the only thing I’m not doing by myself) is to get an accountant. It will prevent you from having multiple mental breakdowns.
The future of HouseOfNikodem
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
My goal is to live completely off of running my business on Etsy; that would be great!
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
As I said, make good photos; customers buy because of good product photos. Try to have a short delivery time and have multiple products in your shop, not only one. Get help in those fields you are not good at (like accounting). But most of all, just start! Everything else you will learn by doing it.
