How kendallyvonneartco got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

I began selling on Etsy in 2018 as a way to get my Arizona and desert-themed artwork out there. I was still only selling my art part time, so I didn’t really have an organised brand, good product photos, or understand much about keywords and SEO. Eventually, I painted Yosemite and Yellowstone on a whim, and once I learned more about how to improve my listings, they actually started selling more and more. So that was when I got really excited about creating my National Park collection. I am now up to 26 Parks and counting that I paint with watercolour in my home studio and then create the digital files to print in house.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favourite items are specifically my national park prints that feature animals, such as my Denali, Yellowstone, Kenai Fjords, and Grand Teton prints. I just love the combination of beautiful scenery with wildlife and celebrating both, as it is one of the very special things about getting out into nature and exploring our National Parks! These sell pretty well and are common additions to my most popular listings of a Set of 4 and a set of 6 National Park Art Prints. My customers love to collect their favourite parks or give them to loved ones as keepsakes to remember their adventures. They are also very popular for nurseries, as animals and nature are very common and make a fun, classic, and gender-neutral theme for a baby’s room.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

It took me a few months to get my first sale from someone outside of my existing following and network of friends and family. Now, I attract most customers through Etsy SEO, keywords, and ad spending. I also share new prints on social media for my followers who are also collectors.

Managing kendallyvonneartco

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

My shop is run solely by me, with the occasional help of my husband with fulfilment. We make use of Google Docs, spreadsheets, the Etsy Seller app, and, of course, USPS pick-ups and Stamps. But overall, everything is printed and packaged in-house by us in a pretty simple operation!

The future of kendallyvonneartco

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

I hope to have all the national parks in the United States and Canada painted someday. I would also like to expand my watercolour animal collection beyond the three prints I currently offer. A financial goal I have would be to reach over six figures in revenue per year by 2025.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

My advice is:

  1. Do your research; study how the listings work and how to make SEO work for you. There is always room for improvement, and I am still constantly adjusting and editing my listings as I learn more about my target audience and what my customers are looking for.
  2. Find your style for photography and stick with it. It doesn’t need to be fancy; I still just use my iPhone and simple editing apps. Clean, bright images are great, but do what you can to make them stand out from the rest. Be you!
  3. Don’t be shy about reaching out to friends and family and sharing your shop on social media. They want to support you, and every sale counts towards your growth and helps you in the Etsy algorithm.

Some sellers really get inspired by hearing numbers. Feel free to share these if you like.
