How Mycactusadventure got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

Hello, My etsy shop is called My Cactus Adventure and I sell cute crochet creations, kits, and cards. My Cactus Adventure originally started with just crochet cacti but soon evolved into creatures and unusual airplant holders. I am now experimenting with micro crochet which is created using embroidery thread and a very small crochet hook.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

I think my favorite item is still "tiny, one of my smaller cacti. Tiny was featured on several buzzfeed lists and still remains one of my most popular sellers. Of my more recent creations, I really like Dandy. Dandy is a representation of the dandilion seed head and is something unique and different.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

I received my first sale within 8 days of opening my shop, and it was for an acrylic pin. In order to attract customers to my shop, I have both Instagram and Facebook channels as well as a mailing list.

Managing Mycactusadventure

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

My shop is predominantly a one-woman band, and I am in charge of marketing, construction, and administration.However, I have family members who help out with jobs like constructing kits and some knitting tasks. Shipping and packing are carried out by myself, and I currently post via Royal Mail.

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

I would like to continue to grow the shop and expand my range. I would also like to develop my range of microcrochet further.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Learn as much as you can about photography and Search engine optimization; they are key points in running a successful shop. Customers are drawn to photographs. Get your terms and conditions in place and make sure you understand the costs involved; then you won't get any surprises with your first sale.
