How NWoodStation got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts with a major in painting, and I found wood a good medium to decorate and to sell worldwide. I started to decorate wooden trays in an old shabby chic style. Right now, when my kids are older and definitely need more attention than less. I have more wooden projects that are not painted.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
I love all of my products; all of them are special to me. I like toys because they are very sentimental things for my clients' children. And that’s why I love to sell handmade wooden planes. I love all the personalized items, as they will have so much history in them: all the notes for the little letters clients leave and all of the loving personalizations on the barrels and boxes.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
Actually, it took quite a long time, as my products did not cost $2; it took me about 6 months to sell the first product.
Managing NWoodStation
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
Mostly, it is only me. But sometimes my husband gives me advice or helps me with the shipping. I use Tailwind, Erank, WordPress, and Pinterest to run my Etsy shop. It is important to give yourself the time you really need to create an item so you will not be rushed by yourself or your clients by setting a tight deadline.
The future of NWoodStation
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
I think, as I did, I will put my heart into it. And I will put my family first.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
Don’t be discouraged; there is a lot of competition, and clients also need some time to build trust so they can make a sale and even come back. As I said, the first sale was after 6 months. Do what you love because you will find a client who loves the same things, and that’s your audience. But also remember what sells and that personalization is important. Try to explain in your listings everything as carefully, aesthetically, and well-manneredly as you would do it in person.
