How PureBlissBathCo got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

My name is Jennifer, and my shop is called Pure Bliss Bath Co. I first opened my shop under a different name in 2018 with the hope of selling dog treats. I believe I closed it after about a month with zero sales. Then, sometime in 2019, I started making bath bombs for myself and my friends and family because I have sensitive skin and couldn’t use a lot of products. They became such a hit with my friends and family that they encouraged me to try and sell them. I opened my shop back up in 2020 under my new name and have been selling ever since. I now sell many products in addition to bath bombs, including body butter, lip balms, sugar scrubs, and shower steamers.

I usually decide what to sell based on what seems popular in the market, on feedback and requests from current customers, and on what appeals to me creatively. I love the creative process of coming up with new products and designs and working to perfect them. I make everything in small batches using high-quality ingredients because I only want to sell items that I would be happy to use myself.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

While bath bombs make up about 90% of my sales, three of my favorite items are actually body butter, body cream, and massage/body oil. I use high-quality organic butters and oils in these items, and they’re so moisturizing and healing.

Whipped Body Butter with Shea & Mango Butter | All-Natural Body Butter
Hand & Body Cream | Body Lotion | Hydrating Dry Skin Cream | Emulsified Body Butter
Massage Oil | Body Oil | All Natural Body Oil | Made with golden jojoba, sunflower, avocado, apricot kernel, and sweet almond oils

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

After I reopened my shop at the beginning of 2020, I believe it took about one month to get my first sale. I attract customers by using social media, updating my shop with new listings and keywords, and using Etsy ads. I also gain new customers through in-person events like craft fairs and farmers' markets.

Managing PureBlissBathCo

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

I am a one-person shop, so I do everything from maintaining my shop and posting on social media to making the products and shipping them. I use Canva quite often, and I also like using Erank and Semrush to help with keywords, descriptions, etc. I also use Business Suite to schedule social media posts. With shipping and fulfillment, the biggest help has been having a label printer. Scheduling free UPS pickups also helps save me a lot of time.

The future of PureBlissBathCo

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

I’d love to get better at managing my social media platforms and improving my SEO. One major goal I have for the immediate future is to start my own website in addition to using Etsy. Then maybe one day I’d like to have my own brick-and-mortar store.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

In the beginning, one thing you need to have is patience. It may take a bit to get your first sale, and then more time to build a customer base. The main goal is to have great-quality products that you’re proud of. Learn how to create good keywords, titles, and descriptions. Having quality photos and videos that showcase your products is also very important. Take time to learn about SEO (search engine optimization), because that will be a big help as well.
