How SkyGoodies got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
Hello! Our Etsy shop is skygoodies.etsy.com, and we design and sell paper products and digital templates for paper crafts to make little things that make you happy! Crafting is such a healing, relaxing, and fun activity. It is part of most of our products, and we believe that one can get true joy through the act of making. We design our paper craft products and templates ourselves in Mumbai, India. We also manufacture physical DIY kits in Mumbai.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
Our favourite items are the DIY typewriter calendar and the DIY sewing machine alendar. Yes, they are also best sellers. We love them because they capture a bit of nostalgia and the beauty of vintage things—both the typewriter and sewing machine are such lovely objects! We have fond memories of using both of them in childhood. These two calendars are DIY templates one can download and print at home, assemble with glue, and then enjoy using them throughout the year, so they can make you happy every single day! Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
The first product we ever listed back in 2013 was a physical wall calendar. And we sold only two pieces in the whole year! But the next few products we listed became very popular and sold many hundreds within a few months. At present, we don’t actively market our Etsy shop; we just focus on designing great products that sell on merit alone.
Managing SkyGoodies
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
I (Misha) manage the Etsy shop by myself, as it is fairly simple. We don't have any add-on tools or apps; the ETsy system is pretty cool, and we have not needed any other app. For shipping and fulfilment, we have a small team and an office space where we pack orders and dispatch from.
The future of SkyGoodies
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
We want to make more physical products available in the future and are working towards being able to offer better shipping prices. We also have tonnes of ideas for new products, and it will take us a couple of years, at least, to execute all of them! By then, I am sure we will have more ideas.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
I think it is important to put a quality product out there so that the product itself does half the work for you by appealing to customers. So I would say that you spent a lot of time and thought designing the products. Secondly, the photography is important—nicely shot products are more attractive, and the customer is buying only based on the photos they see, so photos are extremely important. Thirdly, please answer all the questions customers send you with as much detail as possible. It helps them make a purchase.
