How WeltentaenzerBerlin got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
Hi, my name is Jenny, and I am the owner of Weltentänzer Berlin, which means "Dancers of the World" in German. And like the name already tells you, I founded the brand in Berlin, where I am originally from. My Etsy Shop is a clothing shop, mostly for women (I am currently working on Kids and men's fashion as well), and jewellery shop. All my products are inspired by Bali and are handmade in Bali as well. Where I currently live as well. I am a designer and have actually tailored my clothing myself since I was a teenager. Since I am from a very poor family with a single mom, I had to be creative to look like a fashionable teenager.
I design my dresses myself. I try to make the dresses as adjustable as possible, so girls with different body types and dress sizes can wear the same dress. Also, our bodies go through some different phases in life, where you either gain or lose a few kilos. My dresses will forgive that +/- 5 kilos. So you can still wear it. Or the girls can lend it to a friend or sister.
Since I am also the Marketing and Social Media Manager, the Sales manager, and the Designer, I have decided to get help with the production of my clothing. I am working with small tailors here in Bali who are family-owned. So that means I support small family businesses here in Bali, and they help me. Also, the jewellery is handmade here in Bali by my friend and jewellery maker, Made & Putu from Bali. They produce my silver jewellery in a typically Balinese traditional silver handcraft. Bali is famous for its silver handicrafts. It's very artistic and special.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My favourite dress in my shop is my "Frieda & the Moon" Wrap dress. That's why I have them in so many different colours and, meanwhile, also in PlusSize and as a matching "mother-daughter" Kids dress. The cut is so flattering and really fits dress sizes 34–40. That's so amazing. I even have customers who wore this dress during pregnancy and their breastfeeding period. Because the dress is so nicely adjustable and opens very nicely in the upper part, it is perfect for nursing mamas. And since I had so many requests from girls, I also made a one-size version, which fits sizes 40–44/46.
My second favourite item is my "Triple Moon Goddess" Medallion Necklace. The Medallion shows the different phases of the moon, which symbolises so many aspects of life. Also, the Balinese believe in the power of the moon and celebrate every full moon and every new moon, which kind of had a big influence on me as well. So for me, the moon also became special. We put so much love into this necklace. The engravings are very detailed and artistic, and my customers love this item.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
I have had the shop since 2016. I believe my first sale didn't take that long, but it took quite some time and some effort with SEO to gain more sales. I promote my products on Pinterest and keep up with Etsy SEO.
Managing WeltentaenzerBerlin
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
I am doing everything myself. Just the shipping, since I now live in Bali, is now handled by a fulfilment partner in Germany.
The future of WeltentaenzerBerlin
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
I hope I can increase my sales on Etsy and reach more customers around the world.
